Description
George Edwin Burnell (1863-1948) was a religious educator, and an authority on metaphysical subjects and sacred literature.
Mimeographed transcripts of his lectures sold well enough to go into multiple editions. He was also the president and director
of the California Irrigated Farms Company and San Joaquin Farms Company, and a member of the Jonathan Club. The collection
consists of several hundred typewritten reports of lectures given by Burnell and his wife Mary Lamoreaux Burnell. Lecture
titles include “Experience,” “Intellect,” “Healing,” “Wealth,” and “Virtue.”
Background
Burnell was born in Connecticut in 1863; moved to California, where he became known as a religious educator and authority
on metaphysical subjects and sacred literature; held classes at his home in Arcadia; mimeographed transcripts of his hundreds
of lectures sold well enough to go into multiple editions; his wife, Mary, also lectured; he was president and director of
the California Irrigated Farms Company and San Joaquin Farms Company, member of the Jonathan Club; died in 1948.Burnell was a religious educator and an authority on metaphysical subjects and sacred literature. Classes met regularly at

by examples in the collection of variant settings.
