Hamilton Tyler was born in Fresno, Calif. in 1917. At an early age he developed his interest in birds and insects through
his experiences with his father, naturalist John G. Tyler. After attending UC Berkeley, Tyler became variously a farmer, a
landscape gardener, and a writer. He wrote several books on topics ranging from owls, butterflies, Indian animal mythology,
and gardening.
