Yuk Ow was born in 1915 in Nan Hai district, Guangdong province, China and came to the U.S. at age 13. He graduated from the
Nan Qiao Chinese School in 1932, was hired as a teacher of Chinese, and was later promoted to Dean of Study and as Principal

from his homeland district (Sam Yup). In 1954, Ow received his Master of Library Sciences at the University of California,
Berkeley. After retirement in 1970 from his last job as a translator until his death in 1982, Ow devoted himself to researching
