Born in 1917, Harold F. Weaver attended the University of California, Berkeley as both an undergraduate and graduate student,
attaining his Ph.D. in 1942. During World War II he worked with the National Defense Research Committee at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, and later at the University of California, Berkeley, Radiation Laboratory. He joined the University
of California's Lick Observatory as a staff member in 1945 before taking a faculty position at Berkeley in 1951. He was instrumental
in establishing the Radio Astronomy Laboratory and served as its founding director from 1958 to 1972. He also served as chair
of the Department of Astronomy during the 1979-1980 academic year. Weaver passed away in 2017.
