to the research and writing of text about Berkeley, California history that appears on physical plaques throughout the city
and virtual e-Plaques on the Project website. Files on physical plaques are organized by geographic districts. Files on e-Plaques
are organized by subject, such as artists and writers, architecture, counterculture, music, people, and scientists. There
are also files with background information on, and research and planning documents for the project; media coverage; and correspondence.

The Berkeley Historical Plaque Project was established in 1997 with sponsorship from the City of Berkeley and its Landmarks
Preservation Commission, the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association, and the Berkeley Historical Society. The plaques
document historical Berkeley landmarks and residents. The Project was founded by Robert Kehlmann.
