Jim Thurber (born January 15, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio; died 2017) was an American street poet. He grew up in the mixed farming/light
industry area of the Spokane Valley east of Spokane. His formative years were spent in a children's home located on a large
farm. After high school and a few semesters at a local college he took off for San Francisco and enrolled in San Francisco
State in English and Creative Writing. He opted out of San Francisco State in favor of writing "street poetry" participating
in many local readings and contributing poems to local mimegraphed poetry publications. He then moved to Oregon where he
retired as a postmaster in Lakeside, Oregon.
