William M. Banks was born September 22, 1943 in Georgia. He received his bachelor's degree from Dillard University in 1963,
with a major in biology and a minor in both psychology and sociology. In 1963 he earned his Ed.D from the University of Kentucky
with a major in counseling and guidance and a minor in psychology. He is an emeritus professor of African American Studies
at the University of California, Berkeley.
