Abstract:
Photographic prints and other prints show San Francisco scenes (especially architectural views of large Victorian homes and
some public buildings), several of art works and artists' models, snapshots of the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake
and fire, and several colored views of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Collected material of note is a set of
"real photo postcards" by M.A. Lowry, circa 1905-1910, comprising views and gatherings along the Russian River particularly
in the Monte Rio vicinity, a group of four promotional prints from the North Shore Railroad Company promoting "Country Home
Resorts" along the Russian River, a set of Golden Gate Park and coastal San Francisco views by Gabriel Moulin, and a photograph
of a bas relief profile portrait of poet George Sterling, inscribed by him to Austin Lewis (all --PIC box 1). A set of damaged
and faded (proof?) prints of Mexican mines is included. There is also a set of 12 chromolithographs of Yosemite, printed with
verse and issued by the San Francisco office of the Pennsylvania Fire Insurance Co. of Philadelphia (--AX folder 1). A small
album in the Japanese accordion-fold style, contains late 19th century photographs of scenes presumably in Japan: chiefly
architectural views of what appear to be temples (--ALB). Some unidentified family portraits (cabinet cards) and snapshots
are present. Among the portraits is a cabinet card photograph of British Labour Party founder Keir Hardie, circa 1890s, inscribed
by him, with a back stamp of the American Section of the Socialist Labor Party (--PIC box 1). Unprinted negatives: primarily
family photos and rural scenes (most probably taken in California).

approximately 1890-1920 (issued)
