Abstract:
Chiefly correspondence received by H.M. Yerington, President of Inyo Development Company from L.F.J. Wrinkle, Superintendent
of the borax mining operation at Owens Lake. Details operational difficulties in establishing production and obtaining land
rights with regard to the claims of competitors. Includes a discussion regarding the advantages of using Chinese laborers,
along with the cancelled paychecks of several Chinese. Also includes correspondence from chemical and mining engineers, businessmen,
and others, including D.O. Mills, concerning Owens Lake, borax mining, and related legislation. With this: a manuscript map
of the Owens Lake area, showing railroads, stage road, towns, and recently discovered gold diggings.
Also includes an 1887 pictorial letterhead for the Berkeley factory of the Standard Soap Company of San Francisco.
