Abstract:
Chiefly photographs by Riedy, including views of San Francisco before and after the earthquake of 1906, views of Berkeley,
the University of California at Berkeley, and the Berkeley fire of 1923, the Panama Pacific International Exposition, and
Plumas County scenes. Other locations include Santa Cruz, the Monterey vicinity, and Marin County. Autochromes include mountain
landscapes in Plumas County, views of flowers, and buildings of the Panama Pacific Exposition. Also includes a set of 22 aerial
photographs taken in 1925 by Staples, along with their original printed envelope bearing the title: San Francisco from an
airplane. Several objects of photographic interest are included in the collections: a Jenkins Exposure Meter, a lens board
by H. Luster of Burlingame, Calif., and an autochrome plate box from Lumiere Bros.

A native of Norwalk Ohio, Riedy moved to California in 1898. He became interested in photography as an employee of Bausch
and Lomb. He undertook darkroom work for special customers and also processed his own photographs. These included autochromes
and omnicolore plates, both early color processes.
