John Charles Haley (1905-1991) was a professor in the Art Department at the University of California, Berkeley for 42 years;
he retired from teaching in 1972. He was also an influential watercolorist who worked in many different styles throughout
his life, refusing to be defined to a particular style. Known as the master of the Berkeley style of painting, Haley helped
define modernism in the Bay Area.
