Abstract:
The maps, with annotations and explanatory notes, are primarily concerned with the exploration of the Pacific Northwest, including
the Lewis and Clark Expedition; reproductions are of portions of maps by William Clark, Nicholas King, John Melish, Alexander
Ross, David Thompson, William Kittson, and others. Notes are mainly for the history of Oregon, documenting the thesis that
the "Champoeg meeting" of 1843, at which action supposedly was taken to make Oregon a territory, is a mixture of folklore
and fact. Note concerning General Bonneville included.
