Creator/Contributor:
Haman, John Otto, 1906-1984, creator, correspondent.
Abstract:
Contains mostly correspondence between John Otto Haman and his parents in the 1920s. Also includes newspaper clippings, notes
on cable cars, and other miscellany. Miscellany includes post cards, a wedding announcement, a certificate of promotion to
7th grade for his son Henry (dated June 15, 1956), a photographic portrait (possibly an albumen print circa 1900) of an unidentified
woman, a performance program, dated March 27, 1915, of violinist Schumann-Heink at Festival Hall, and a color calendar print
titled "Union Street Dummy and Car, 1880 Transportation from the Presidio to the Barbary Coast. 1906" mounted on a cardboard
cutout mat, etc. Also includes three letters from "Lottie" and "Etta" [likely early relatives of Haman] to their parents.
One of the clippings (circa 1950s) concerns remarks made by John Otto Haman, in his capacity as the former president of the
California Street Cable Railroad Company, about San Francisco Municipal Authority's financial losses operating the street
cars.
