Abstract:
Official file containing the architectural plans and related documents for the construction of a parish church in Encarnación,
Mexico. Two documents are signed by the architect, Miguel Costansó, one is signed by Jacobo Ugarte y Loyola, the Intendant
of Guadalajara, and the rest are signed by various officials. Includes 4 folded architectural drawings (53 x 33 cm or smaller)
depicting the floor plan, front elevation, side elevation, and foundation with columns. It is unclear who made the drawings
but they are of a very experienced and professional hand and may be those of the architect, Miguel Costansó. The last document
in the file, dated 1792, is an admonition of the parish priest of Encarnación, who began construction on the church in 1791
before the plans were completed, and he is ordered to complete the building in alignment with the new neoclassical standards
for church construction. Also includes an unrelated leather flap binding from an earlier date (1741) that had been used to
house the file.
