Abstract:
Letters to Cyrus Mendenhall and other Crescent Silver Co. officials are mainly from A.F. Curtis but also from H.M. & W. Teller,
J.W. Horner, Wm. H. Cushman, Edward Reilly, and E.W. Stephens, Jr. Letters from Curtis and Reilly, agents of the company,
describe the poor market for ore, lack of funds to pay bills, 3% interest on debts, and the need to restore the company's
good name so that in case of trouble there will be some friends on their side in Georgetown. Mining claim disputes involving
Dibbins and others are mentioned. Curtis resigns his position in frustration at the lack of financial support from company
headquarters, and at one point suggests Wm. Mendenhall as a potential replacement. Other letters also are about the company's
financial obligations, with a lengthy letter from E.W. Stephens discussing his advances and other financial arrangements he
made with the board of directors. Also includes checks signed by E.W. Thayer, bills, receipts, and other miscellaneous financial
documents.
