Lemel Arnstein and his wife ran a school for girls, in Fürth, Germany. Lemel was born in Bavaria to a wealthy family, and,
with time, he became a philanthropist who sent money to Jews in America who were suffering from local prejudice. He also extended
scholarships to Jewish students and artists by means of a third party, so that the recipient of his donation would not know
who had donated the money. He also supported school libraries and acquired libraries of deceased rabbis and teachers to send
to America.
