Joseph Esherik discusses his Quaker background, his mentor uncle Wharton Esherick, and his education at the University of
Pennsylvania; his wartime experience; his early clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the San Francisco chapter of the
American Institute of Architects; his thoughts on the work of William Wurster and Bernard Maybeck; the Forties, the Fifties,
and the Sixties; teaching at the Dept. of Architecture, University of California, Berkeley; the firm of Esherick, Homsey,
Dodge, and Davis; and his philosophy of architecture.
