Consists of correspondence; manuscripts; professional papers, lectures, conference papers, and notes; newspaper articles by
La Harpe; datebooks; and personalia. Much of the material is from La Harpe's tenure at University of California, Berkeley.
Subjects include French literature, religion, philosophy, and world travel including South America. Manuscripts include "Adventures
in Thinking" (1943) and "Goethe in the Life of Andre Gide and Paul Valery" (1950). There are also illustrated stories, such
as "A Little Deer Went to School" (1927). Also includes notebooks with lists of books La Harpe read, diplomas, and her Swiss
passport.

Jacqueline Ellen Violette de La Harpe (1888-1980) was born in Switzerland. She received the Docteur es Lettres in 1923 from
the University of Lausanne. La Harpe joined the University of California, Berkeley, French department in 1926 and taught there
until she retired in 1960.
