Walter (Ted) Edwin Rex (1927-2010) was hired at the University of Berkeley, California in 1960 as an assistant professor of
French based on his doctoral thesis on Pierre Bayle, written at Harvard under the direction of the renowned Diderot specialist,
Herbert Dieckmann. He retired from the University in 1992.
