With remarkable attention to detail Walter Jones, in some 350 letters and postcards to his fiancee, Musidore Rowntree, describes
mining operations, California political and social life, as well as his own personal life. He writes extensively of his work
at the Golden Gate Mine near Sonora and later at the Pacific Manufacturing Co. in Santa Clara. These letters also include
observations on subjects ranging from temperance to the San Francisco mayoral race to the performing arts.
