Abstract:
Bound typescript (255 p.) of dissertation by Warren Ramsey on the life and works of the French poet, Jules Laforgue, which
was the winner of the MLA-Oxford Award. This was returned by the award committee in order to make corrections prior to publication
by Oxford University Press, and as a result has been heavily annotated by Ramsey.
Also, letter from William R. Parker of the Modern Language Assoc. of America, Oct. 29, 1951, informing Ramsey that his dissertation
was the winner of the MLA-Oxford Award and will be published by Oxford Univ. Press. However, he asks that he keep this news
confidential until the ceremony in Dec. He also requests that Ramsey make changes prior to publication and is returning the
manuscript along with five reviews of the dissertation, including those from professors such as Rene Wellek at Yale University,
Ernest J. Simmons at Columbia University, Margaret Gilman at Bryn Mawr College, Kenneth Cornell, and Henri Peyre, under whom
Ramsey was a graduate student. Parker notes that he will be sending separately the MLA Style Sheet and the Press' instructions
to authors (not included). In addition, there is a memorandum to the members of the committee and a summary of the dissertation,
both by Ramsey.
