Title:
Material relating to boycott of Nazi typefaces, 1939-1940
Creator/Contributor:
Graphic Arts Forum (New York, N.Y.), creator
Abstract:
Contains several copies of a 1939 proclamation, with signatures of notable members of the Forum, calling for graphic artists
and advertisers to boycott the purchase and use of Nazi typefaces, and encouraging them to use American-made type. The bulk
of the collection consists of requests from printers, publishers, and other interested parties in the U.S., Canada, and Europe
for copies of the proclamation, which features a list of Nazi-made type and compares typefaces made in Germany with similar
U.S. type. With this are minutes of the Forum's type committee meeting of May 1939, a press release, and clippings, among
which is the New Republic article of Aug. 9, 1939, from which many of the requests originated.
