Michael Zarchin was born in the Ukraine, in 1893, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1915. In 1917, he graduated from high school
in San Francisco. In 1922, he received an M.S. from the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph. D. from Dropsie College,
in 1931. Zarchin served as the Executive Director of San Francisco's Jewish Education Society (1927-1928) and of Oakland's
Jewish Educational Institute (1933-1935). He was also a professor of economics at San Francisco's City College (1935-1958).
In the 1960s, Zarchin served as the chair at the American Academy of Asian Studies in its Middle Eastern Division. He also
held the position of Associate Editor of the California Jewish Record in San Francisco, and he contributed to many other periodicals.
In addition, he was the author of "From Constantine to Hitler;" "The Social and Economic Development of the Near East;" and
"Glimpses of Jewish Life in San Francisco."
