Joseph Katz's family was from Paris, France (Vieux Montmartre). Family members included Joseph Katz, Lisa Katz, and their
children, Cecilia Katz, Renee Katz, and Gilda Katz. All but Gilda were transported to Auschwitz in 1942. Gilda Katz survived
the Holocaust by hiding at a farm in Auvergne, Southern France. After the war, Gilda applied for admission to the United States
to come live with family members in San Francisco. In 1954, Gilda, who was a dressmaker by trade, found work in San Francisco
with H. Liebes. In 1954, she married Cyril Magnus and went to work for fashion designer Gibson Bayh at Gumps.
