William F. Simpson worked as a cartoonist and photographer for the Oakland Tribune in the 1930s and 1940s (signing his name
Bill Simpson). He was also affiliated with the f64 group of photographers and contributed to Camera Craft magazine. The Oakland
Museum exhibited a one-man show of his photography in 1993. His wife was watercolor artist Anita Simpson.
