Abstract:
The two photograph albums document William H. Bain and his wife Juanita Elizabeth Bain's life in San Francisco and travels.
Album 1: contains 193 photographic prints documenting the Bain's life between 1915 and 1939. The Panama Pacific International
Exposition photographs depict the Fair, including Palace of Fine Arts, the Norway, French, and Philippine buildings, the Japanese
Tea Garden, and the Chinese Pavilion. Photographs depict travels including picnics on the beach, a party at Land's End in
1920, Camp Keith in Monterey in 1925, Pismo Beach, Paso Robles Hot Springs Hotel, Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, Mission Santa
Barbara, Boulder Creek in 1927, Idria, and Lake Almaden. The first half of the album is arranged chronologically. The majority
of the photographs have date and location hand-written on the border of each photograph. Of note is an exterior and interior
shot of the Bain residence at 164 Hermann Street. Captioned photographs include Mr. and Mrs. Stockman, Robinson Family and
Wilson Family, Mrs. Bennett, Miss Rattenbury, and William Sturn. In the back of the album, there is one comic strip and a
book cover page of Life Behind the Prison Bars by Amos Bain. The album is leather-bound and missing the front cover. Album
2 contains: 87 photographic prints in a bound red-leather volume documenting Mr. and Mrs. Bain's life. San Francisco locations
include the Dryfus Brothers business at 274 Ellis Street, Golden Gate Park, the Panama Pacific International Exposition, and
the British fleet visiting the San Francisco Bay in June 1924. Outside of San Francisco are group photographs of friends
in a rural location, the train stop in Forestville, El Camino Real and Vallejo's tombstone. This album is not arranged chronologically
and do contain a number of duplicate photographs from album one.

The photograph albums belonged to William H. Bain who resided at 164 Hermann Street between 1920 and 1940. Mr. Bain was married
to Juanita Elizabeth Bain between 1917 and 1929. William H. Bain worked as a machinest and a clerk. Both Mr. and Mrs. William
H. Bain were originally from the Southwest.
